Ultraman Zero
Ultraman Zero
Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano
The son of Ultraseven. An exceptionally powerful young Ultra, he was banished from the Land of Light after attempting to steal the planet's power source, the Plasma Spark. After years of training under Ultraman Leo, he eventually returned and proved himself a worthy hero in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends. Afterwards, he would begin trekking the multiverse, pursuing after all sorts of powerful villains, clashing with Belial time and time again. He has since become one of the most imortant Ultras in the Ultra Series, frequently crossing over into other series, most notably Ultraman Geed, where he is one of the main characters. He has no single human host, but always uses the Ultra Zero Eye to transform.
- Bifurcated Weapon: A variation. His Zero Twin Sluggers can combine into a large blade.
- Calling Your Attacks: Has a habit of doing so in Ultra Zero Fight.
- Chest Blaster: His Zero Twin Shoot attack, which fires a large beam from the Twin Sluggers when they are mounted on his chest.
- Multiform Balance: In the Ultra Zero Fight segment of Ultraman Retsuden, he gains this ability thanks to Dyna and Cosmos.
- Mighty Glacier: Strong Corona, a combined power of Cosmos' Corona Mode and Dyna's Strong Type. With fiery power from Cosmos Corona Mode and powerful attacks from Dyna Strong Type, it specializes in exerting great force in hand-to-hand combat.
- Fragile Speedster: Luna Miracle, a combined power of Cosmos' Luna Mode and Dyna's Miracle Type. With a soft heart and energy abilities from Ultraman Cosmos Luna Mode and speed from Ultraman Dyna Miracle Type, it exists for energy attacks, high speed battles and ending conflicts with no bloodshed.
- My Hero Zero: His name and one of the most powerful of all the Ultra warriors.
- Not So Different: Tried to steal the Plasma Spark, just like Belial. However, unlike Belial, he realized he was wrong to do so.
- Playing with Fire: His Garnet Buster in Strong Corona mode is a beam of fire.
- Super Mode: Ultimate Zero in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, Shining Ultraman Zero in Ultra Zero Fight, and Ultraman Zero Beyond in Ultraman Geed.
Ultimate Force Zero
Ultraman Zero's friends and members of his multiverse-protecting superhero crew. He first encountered them in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial while travelling through an alternate universe in search of the fallen Ultraman, who had fled to that dimension to make it his own to rule. They tend to reappear alongside Zero from time to time.- Badass Crew: Two alien warriors and a transforming robot from an alternate universe, as well as said robot's 'younger brother', being led by one of the strongest Ultra warriors in franchise history to travel across the multiverse and battle its most dangerous threats.
- Guardian of the Multiverse: Correction, guardians.
Mirror Knight
Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa
A warrior from the Planet of Mirrors (a giant cosmic mirror that contains a whole world in it) long tasked with defending the allied world of Esmeralda. He was captured and enslaved by Belial when the dark Ultra warrior invaded his universe and looted Esmeralda but after Zero and his allies freed him, he has become a steadfast ally of the Ultraman.- Attack Reflector: A great deal of his abilities work this way.
- Barrier Warrior: His Mirror Dome allows him to create reflective force fields around his targets.
- Creepy Cool Crosses: A stylistic feature, as his powers tend to manifest in cross shapes.
- Expy: Based on a previous hero created by Tsuburaya Productions called Mirrorman.
- Finishing Move: His is the Silver Cross, a giant cross-shaped bolt of light.
- Hand Blast: Can perform numerous of these.
- Master of Illusion: Can create illusory reflections.
- Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: His father was a denizen of the Planet of Mirrors and his mother was from the planet Esmeralda.
- Superpowered Evil Side: Is partially brought under Belial's control after being defeated by him. Only the leaders of the Planet of Mirrors sealing him under their world's ocean kept him from turning wholly evil.
Jean-Bot
Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya
A sentient robot able to transform into a spaceship known as the Jean-Bird. He served as the personal transport of the royal family of the planet Esmeralda, but when Belial devastated the planet, he was taksed with bringing the princess Emerana to safety, which led to him joining forces with Zero to fight Belial and later protect the whole multiverse as he does these days.
- An Axe to Grind: Can create a giant battleaxe the shield on his left shoulder.
- By the Power of Grayskull!: Variant. A pilot can access Jean-Bot's controls to manipulate his movement by shouting 'Jean Fight!', as Nao does during the climax.
- Embarrassing Nickname: Glen Fire likes to call him 'Yakitori' (Japanese fried chicken), to his annoyance.
- Expy: Based on a previous hero created by Tsuburaya Productions called Jumborg Ace, who was also a giant robot.
- Finishing Move: His is the Emerald Beam, a green laser fired from his forehead.
- Humongous Mecha: The Ultra Series has featured plenty of giant robots before, but Jean-Bot is the first one to be a genuine Ultraman-style hero.
- Rocket Punch: His Jean-Knuckle, fired from his left fist.
- Sapient Ship: In his Jean-Bird form, he still can converse with anyone inside the ship.
- Transforming Mecha: Can transform into a spaceship called the Jean-Bird.
Glen Fire
Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki
A fiery (both literally and figuratively) alien who originally worked with a gang of space pirates that Zero and his allies encountered while traversing the universe in search of a way to defeat Ultraman Belial. He initially saw Zero as a rival, but after joining forces with him to fight Belial, he became a member of the Ultimate Force Zero.
- Action Bomb: His Fire Dynamite, which is essentially just Ultraman Taro's Ultra Dynamite.
- Elemental Weapon: He can make a lance of flame called the Fire Stick that is also able to shot out bolts of fire.
- Expy: Based on a previous hero created by Tsuburaya Productions called Fireman.
- Finishing Move: His is the Glen Spark, a giant orb of flame that incinerates foes caught in it.
- Hot-Blooded: Literally and figuratively.
- Playing with Fire: All of his abilities use fire in some form.
- Space Pirates: He used to be one, hanging out with the Flame Pirates of the Nitromethane Sea (actually a nebula) before joining forces with Zero.
Voiced by: Miyu Irino
The last introduced member of the Ultimate Force Zero, having debuted in Killer the Beatstar. Jean-Nine was born as Jean-Killer, created by the evil supercomputer Beatstar from the data of Jean-Bot for the purpose of destroying him. After Beatstar was destroyed, Jean-Killer was freed from his programming and rechristened Jean-Nine, younger brother of Jean-Bot and newest member of the Ultramane Zero's team.
- Arm Cannon: Possess two on both of his arms.
- Chest Blaster: Can fire Homing Lasers from his chest.
- Enemy Scan: Jean-Killer performs one for Zero, Mirror Knight, and Glen Fire respectively upon first encountering them.
- Evil Knockoff: Jean-Bot explains that Jean-Nine was created in his image using some of his own A.I.
- Expy: Based on a secondary hero in Jumborg Ace called Jumborg 9, with Jean-Killer being named after a monster from the same series called Jum Killer.
- Eye Beams: Can fire out red lasers from his eyes.
- Heel–Face Turn: He was originally constructed for the purpose of destroying Jean-Bot by Beatstar, but after learning the power of free will, he joined the Ultimate Force Zero and was given the new name of Jean-Nine.
- Humongous Mecha: Much like his brother, although he can't transform.
- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Jean-Killer. Lampshaded by Mirror Knight, who suggested giving him a new name because of this once he joins their team.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Had red eyes as Jean-Killer.
- Rocket Punch: Just like Jean-Bot.
- Shock and Awe: Can shoot paralyzing lightning from his hands.
- You Are Number 6: Princess Emerana rechristened him Jean-Nine because he was the ninth of the group of heroes who defeated Beatstar (the Ultimate Force Zero, Rei, Captain Hyuuga, Gomora, and Litra).
Moroboshi
A Pigmon who serves as the mascot of the Ultimate Force Zero. The team first encountered him in Ultra Zero Fight, where it was one of several monsters resurrected by the Alien Bat Gurashie, but unlike the others, remained a friendly and peaceful creature.See Ultraman- Meaningful Name: Named after Dan Moroboshi, the human form of Zero's father.
- Mythology Gag: This isn't the first time Pigmon's been resurrected by the villains alonside other monsters, only to still be on the side of good and betray them. Just ask Geronimon.
- Team Pet: Of the Ultimate Force Zero.
ZAP SPACY
An intergalactic exploration crew who have survived numerous encounters with kaiju thanks to the power of Rei, a crew member with the ability to command kaiju with a battlenizer. Rei controls Gomora and Litra with this device, using his monster companions to help Zero and other Ultras take on their various gigantic foes. Other members of ZAP SPACY are Captain Hyuuga, Haruna, Oki, and Kumano. The team appears in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends, Ultraman Zero vs Darklops Zero, and Killer the Beatstar.See Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster BattleRei's Gomora
See Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster BattleRei's Litra
See Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster BattleRun
Played by: Yu Koyanagi
The first host of Ultraman Zero, encountered by the hero when he first arrived in the alternate universe Belial was rampaging through. He is a law enforcer on the mining planet Anu, which was under attack by Belial's forces. Run was killed in the assault but Zero resurrected him and took him as a host to survive in the unfamiliar new dimension.
- Human Aliens: While he does look exactly like a human, he actually hails from an alien planet on an alternate universe.
Nao
Played by: Tatsuomi Hamada
Run's little brother, who enthusiastically joins Zero/Run on his adventures through the new universe alongside Princess Esmerana, and Jean-Bot.
- Human Aliens: Just like his older brother.
- Tagalong Kid: Justified by the fact that Zero is currently in the body of his older brother, so he really doesn't have anyone else to go with. He does prove to be quite useful at times, even piloting Jean-Bot against Belial's forces in the climax.
Princess Emerana Lourdes
Played by: Tao Tsuchiya
The princess of the planet Esmeralda, a beautiful world with vast deposits of emerald-like minerals. Unfortunately, Esmeralda was ravaged by Ultraman Belial and his armies when he came to loot the planet. Emerana escaped with the help of Jean-Bot, soon running into Zero/Run and Nao and joining them in the struggle against Belial. She also appears in Killer the Beatstar, where she and Jean-Bot are captured by the titlular A.I.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: She helps Zero and Nao quite a bit on their journey in search of the Shield of Barraj, including (temporarily) sacrificing her life to give Jean-Bot additional power. Not to mention, it was she who broke through to Jean-Killer and the mind-controlled Jean-Bot in Killer the Beatstar.
Taiga Nozomu
Played by: DAIGO
The newest member of Super GUTS, fifteen years after Shin Asuka's Heroic Sacrifice. His ego and recklessness strongly reminds the old Super GUTS members of their lost teammate. However, he soon finds himself in a strange new universe when he is captured by surviving Spheres and brought to Team U's world, where he becomes the reluctant second host of Ultraman Zero.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Contributing to his Sad Clown status, Taiga's parents were killed in a fight between Dyna and a monster, hence why he was resistant to Zero's help from the start.
- Expy: Acts almost exactly like Shin Asuka from Ultraman Dyna. The old Super GUTS team members take note of this, but like with Asuka, Character Development sees him change.
- Sad Clown: At the start of the film. He acted like a stuck up rookie that can go missions alone. Only until after he realizes how much of a threat Alien Bat is, and how much Ultraman means to people do his true colors come into play.
Team U
Played by: AKB48 members Sayaka Akimoto, Ayaka Umeda, Sae Miazawa, Yuka Masuda, Sumire Sato, Kana Kobayashi, and Haruka Shimada
Left to right: Hina, Nonko, Sawa, Captain Anna, Misato, Maomi, and Risa
A group of women from a universe where Alien Bat has successfully eradicated all life on Earth (save for them and a group of orphaned children) to feed his Hyper Zetton. They have since formed a motley defense team of sorts to take care of the children and deal with the occasional giant monster. They are made of Anna (their leader), Misato (their deputy captain), Sawa (their strategist and best combatant), Nonko and Maomi (their mechanics), Hina (their communications operator), and Risa (their medic).
- Action Girl: The entire team, but especially Captain Anna, Misato, and Sawa.
- Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: They were really just a bunch of nobodies who got together in an abandoned defense team building and made it their own, only taking on the mantle after adopting the children.
Ultraseven
Voiced by: Kohji Moritsugu
Zeros' father and one of the most well-known Ultra heroes. He is one of the main Ultras featured in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends and plays minor roles in the rest of the Ultraman Zero sub-franchise, often giving advice for his son and sometimes appearing in his human identity of Dan Moroboshi.See UltrasevenUltraman Leo
Voiced by: Ryu Manatsu
A student of Ultraseven who passed on the teachings of Zero's father to Zero himself after the junior hero was banished from M78 when he almost went down Belial's path. As Zero's mentor, he plays minor roles throughout Zero's adventures, but gets to participate a bit in the combat in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends and Ultraman Zero vs Darklops Zero.See Ultraman LeoUltraman Dyna
Voiced by: Takeshi Tsuruno
An Ultraman from a completely different universe who, like Zero, has become a traveler of the multiverse after originally performing a Heroic Sacrifice to save Earth from a cosmic threat. He plays a secondary role in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends where he helps the M78 Ultras battle Belial, but in Ultraman Saga, he is one of the major heroes alongside Zero and Cosmos. He often appears as his human host Shin Asuka.See Ultraman DynaUltraman Cosmos
Voiced by: Taiyo Sugiura
Another Ultraman from a universe different from that of the classic Showa timeline. After having defeated a number of powerful threats in his universe, Cosmos now tasks himself with the occasional visit to other dimensions in search of worlds in need of protection. Thus, he is one of the main Ultras to appear in Ultraman Saga, where he is also seen alongside his human host Musashi Haruno.See Ultraman CosmosUltraman
Voiced by: Susumu Kurobe
The original Ultraman himself. While he mainly plays bit roles in the Zero sub-franchise, he is one of the main Ultras to play a role in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends. He appears as Shin Hayata on several occasions.See UltramanUltraman Mebius
Voiced by: Shunji Igarashi
A relatively young Ultraman (being only a thousand or so years older than Zero). He is one of the major Ultras to appear in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends, where he also assumes his human form Mirai Hibino for a part of the film.See Ultraman MebiusAdvertisement:
Ultraman Belial
Ultraman Belial
Voiced by: Hiroyuki Misako (Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends and Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, now stock grunts), Yuki Ono (Ultra Zero Fight onwards)
A fallen Ultra warrior. Like Zero, Belial was originally banished from the Land of Light after attempting to steal the Plasma Spark. In exile, he encountered the powerful entity known as Reiblood, who corrupted him further with his Reionyx powers. With the newfound ability to command monsters through the Giga Battlenizer, he led a huge army of kaiju against the Land of Light, but was ultimately defeated by Ultraman King and imprisoned in what became the planet's moon. However, after being freed by a foolish Alien Zarab, he has begun to rampage through the cosmos once more and is now considered one of the greatest enemies of the Ultra heroes, especially his longtime foe Ultraman Zero and later on his 'son' Ultraman Geed.
- And I Must Scream: He was sealed away inside the moon for 20,000 years.
- Beware the Superman: For most of the franchise, Ultras are heroic protectors of the world. Ultraman Belial is an evil one, and one of the most dangerous threats in the universe.
- Big Bad: In the two films he appeared in.
- The Chessmaster: Whatever he's planning in Geed, It apparently involves collecting the Ultra Capsules, and it doesn't matter if it's Kei or his own son Riku doing the collecting.
- Creepy Long Fingers: Gains these in the sequel.
- Dark Is Evil: Being a major villain, and the Dark Ultra Warrior.
- Death by Irony: Non-lethal example in Geed. When he fights his son in episode 17, Geed beats him using Royal Mega Master, a form he accesses by using his (Belial's) Ultra Capsule in combination with Ultraman King's.
- Dragon Ascendant: Was originally a pawn of Reiblood during his original rampage. However, by the time he escapes his prison, Reiblood is Deader Than Dead and Belial becomes thhe main threat to the world all on his own.
- The Exile: Was banished from the Land of Light for trying to steal the Plasma Spark out of his greed and pride.
- Expy: Due to his overall design and aesthetics in his ultra form, Belial is the Nebula M78 equivalent to Dark Zagi.
- Fallen Hero: Was previously an Ultra, but fell to evil and darkness.
- Galactic Conqueror: During the first film. Becomes a Multiversal Conqueror by the second.
- Grand Theft Me: He takes over Zero by imparting his essence into him, becoming the awesome-looking Zero Darkness.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: He's the father of Ultraman Geed.
- One-Winged Angel: Does this practically Once an Episode. The first time being merging with his army of monsters to form Beryudora, then in the second, he becomes the enormous Arch Belial by consuming the emerald ore, and in Geed he becomes Chimeraboros.
- Parents as People:
- Satanic Archetype: His pride and greed caused him to try and steal the Land of Light's artificial sun for himself, resulting in him being cast out and ultimately sealed away by the Ultra's equal of God.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: Ultraman King defeated him and created the moon to imprison him in it. He eventually escapes.
- Shock and Awe: One of the abilities of his Giga Battle Nizer.
- Truly Single Parent: Geed was created using his DNA and that's about it on his part.
Belial's Forces
The 100 Monster Army
An army of one hundred of the Ultra Series' most (in)famous kaiju and alien enemies of the Ultramen. They form Belial troops in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends, created when the dark Ultra warrior uses his Reionyx power and Giga Battlenizer to resurrect the numerous souls of those slain by the Ultras lying in Monster Graveyard. Facing them off are Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Mebius, and Rei's Gomora and Litra.Darklops Zero
A robotic doppelganger of Ultraman Zero who serves as the title antagonist of Ultraman Zero vs Darklops Zero. It was discovered by a group of Alien Salome who realized it was not of this universe and sought to harness its great power. However, it turned out to be much less under their control than they imagined...- Cyber Cyclops: Hence the name Darklops ('Dark' and 'Cyclops').
- Evil Knockoff: Of Zero.
- Humongous Mecha: A robot duplicate of Ultraman Zero from another universe discovered by the Salome who then decided to use it themselves.
- Robot Me: Of Zero once again.
- Super Prototype: He may be just Belial's prototype, but he puts up way more of a fight against Zero than his mass produced successors.
Darkgone
Voiced by: Taiyo Kawashita
A commanding officer of Belial's universe-conquering empire in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, serving as one of the primary villains of the movie.
- Casting a Shadow: He can teleport between any locations with sufficient darkness.
- Chest Blaster: His Gone Laser, which also has homing qualities and can split into multiple shots.
- Co-Dragons: With Iaron
- Combat Tentacles: In his battle with Jean-Bot, he demonstrates this with the Gone Whip, a tentacle formed from his right hand that channels electricity and drains energy.
- Dark Is Evil: It's in his name, people!
- Expy: Based on a villain from Jumborg Ace called Anti Go-Ne.
- Extra Eyes: Has four red eyes.
- Shapeshifter Weapon: He can transform both of his hands into swords of shadow.
Iaron
Voiced by: Norio Wakamoto
A fellow commander for Ultraman Belial's planet-raiding armies of Darklopses and Legionoids in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, making him one of the film's main antagonists.
- Cephalothorax: His face is on his chest, though its rather small compared to the rest of his body.
- Co-Dragons: With Darkgone
- Expy: Based on Iron, the first Monster of the Week in Mirrorman.
- Extra-ore-dinary: His body is partially made of steel, making him nigh indestructible.
- Make Me Wanna Shout: Can fire sonic blasts from the spike on the top of his body.
Darklopses
Robotic soldiers that form a good chunk of Ultraman Belial's armies in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. They are doppelgangers of Ultraman Zero, and as their name suggests, they are actually the finalized versions of darklops Zero, who was a prototype built by Belial before the Alien Salome Dr. Herodia and her assistants found it.
- Cyber Cyclops: Hence the name Darklops ('Dark' and 'Cyclops').
- Evil Knockoff: Of Zero, except there's thousands of them.
- Humongous Mecha: This being the Ultra Series, it comes naturally for Mecha-Mooks.
- Mecha-Mooks: Alongside the Legionoids, they act as this for Belial.
- Robot Me: Of Zero once again.
Legionoids
Mechanical soldiers serving as the standard troops of the Belial Galactic Empire, the universe-ravaging dictatorship Belial has established in an alternate dimension during Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. They are sent out to assault entire planets alongside the Darklopses. Another one also appears in Killer the Beatstar under control of the title A.I., but is swiftly defeated by Rei's Gomora.
- Arm Cannon: The space-based Legionoids posses these on both arms.
- Humongous Mecha: This being the Ultra Series, it comes naturally for Mecha-Mooks.
- Mecha-Mooks: Alongside the Darklopses.
- This Is a Drill : The ground-based Legionoids have their arms ending in drills.
As a whole:
- What Happened to the Mouse?: They are not mentioned or seen in Ultraman Geed besides one small cameo in a flashback. Their fates are currently unknown.

Alien Bat
Voiced by: Hideo Higashikokubaru (Ultraman Saga), Shintaro Asanuma (Ultra Zero Fight)
An updated version of the final alien invader to attack Earth in Return of Ultraman. Alien Bat is Zero's second most frequent adversary after Ultraman Belial, first appearing as the Big Bad of Ultraman Saga. He seeks to destroy all life in the multiverse. In his debut, he abducted nearly the entire human race on an alternate version of Earth to use them to feed his monster Hyper Zetton. He was also ndirectly responsible for the creation of Beatstar.
In Ultra Zero Fight, a second Alien Bat named Gurashie (an apprentice of the first one) appears as the first season's Big Bad. Like his predecessor, he carries out his scheme to destroy Ultraman Zero by resurrecting a number of monsters from the Monster Graveyard.
See Return of Ultraman- A God Am I: His justification for his omnicidal tendencies is that he believes he has the divine power to do as he wishes to the multiverse. He refers to Hyper Zetton as proof of his godhood.
- Art Evolution: Alien Bat has received a massive design upgrade from his original incarnation. Whereas the original being was a chubby, somewhat silly-looking fellow with giant fangs, oversized pincers and an antennae on his head, the new Alien Bat is dressed in a sleek suit of robotic armor and has more blatantly bat-like features designed into his mask.
- Big Bad: Of Ultraman Saga.
- Omnicidal Maniac: Seeks to destroy the entire multiverse.
- Straw Nihilist: The reason why he wants to destroy the multiverse is because he believes life is ultimately meaningless because of death. He has created Hyper Zetton for the purpose of hastening the process for everyone.
- Took a Level in Badass: While the original Alien Bat wasn't a laughing matter, he had nothing on this guy in terms of sheer threat posed to the universe.
Hyper Zetton
Click here to see its larval form Gigant Hyper Zetton
An even more powerful version of the final opponent of the original Ultraman. Alien Bat created this creature to eradicate all life in the multiverse, incubating its egg and feeding the growing larva by harvesting the fear of survivors from an alternate Earth he attacked in the events of Ultraman Saga.
Hyper Zetton has been brought back in the shows on several occasions, sometimes with new and updated forms like Hyper Zetton Deathscythe, but it is generally used the same way the producers would use the standard Zetton.
For tropes also applying to the standard Zetton, see the Ultraman Character Sheet- Beware My Stinger Tail: Possesses a serrated tail.
- Blade Below the Shoulder: Has sword-like projections in place of Zetton's usual hands.
- Chest Blaster: While Zetton is always able to shoot out fireballs, Hyper Zetton launches them from its chest rather than its 'face'.
- Combat Tentacles: As Gigant Hyper Zetton, which are actually extended versions of its front legs.
- Elite Mook: Of one of the most powerful monsters in the original Ultraman.
- Emotion Eater: Alien Bat sustained the creature on human fear to make it as powerful as it is (though feeding it several Spheres probably helped as well).
- Metamorphosis Monster: Begins as an utterly colossal centipede-like abomination called Gigant Hyper Zetton before metamorphosing into the more traditional humanoid form.
- Mythology Gag: This isn't the first time Alien Bat has commanded a Zetton.
Alien Salome Dr. Herodia
Played by: Tomomi Miyashita
One of a race of genius-intelligence, human-like aliens that once attacked Earth with a robot replica of Ultraseven. She was the head of a team studying parallel universes on the planet Chain in hopes of conquering the multiverse with their army of robot Ultramen and two new robots — the Mecha-Gomora and a strange new robot called Darklops Zero. However, their studies threatened the stability of the multiverse, attracting the attention of ZAP SPACY and Ultraman Zero.
- Big Bad: Of Ultraman Zero and vs Darklops Zeroat least until Darklops Zero reveals itself to be more independent than she believed.
- Meaningful Name: Herodia was the wife of King Herod in the Bible, as her species are named after the pair's daughter.
- Multiversal Conqueror: Her goal is to seize the multiverse with an army of robot Ultras, taking advantage of a weak point in reality to leap through dimensions.
Mecha-Gomora
A robot replica of Gomora, specifically the one used by Rei of ZAP SPACY. It the Gomora of a Rei from an alternate universe. When Dr. Herodia's team captured them, they took his Battlenizer and modified it, transforming it into a robot that would serve the Alien Salome in multiversal conquest.
Mecha-Gomora has since been transferred to the TV series beginning with Ultraman X, where he often appears as a Monster of the Week.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: As a result of Darklops Zero stealing control of it from Dr. Herodia during the climax.
- Breakout Villain: Has since become a frequently appearing Monster of the Week in the TV shows, thanks to being pretty well received upon his debut.
- Chest Blaster: His Mega Crusher Ray, which is fired from the pink light on his chest.
- Cyborg: While showing no organic features on himself. Mecha Gomora was once a normal Gomora, until he was 'modified' by the Alien Salome into serving them.
- Evil Knockoff: The Salome pretty much specialize in constructing these, so inevitably there was going to be one of Rei's Gomora.
- Expy: Intentionally designed after Mechagodzilla, particularly the original one from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Fans have also noted the resemblance to MechaGreymon, given Greymon was based on Gomora.
- Grappling-Hook Gun: With his claws attached to them no less.
- Horn Attack: Like his organic counterpart, Mecha-Gomora can shoot out a Super Oscillatory Wave from his nasal horn and also likes to use it by jamming his horn in foes first.
- Humongous Mecha: A robotic doppelganger created by the Salome from the Battlenizer data of Gomora from the Rei of an alternate universe.
- Macross Missile Massacre: Able to fire a slew of missiles from his fingers and back.
- Robot Me: Of Rei's Gomora.
- Robotic Reveal: Done in a very noticeable homage to Mechagodzilla.
Robot Ultra Brothers
Robot replicas of Zoffy, Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Jack, and Ultraman Ace mass produced by Dr. Herodia and her men for the purpose of conquering the multiverse alongside Mecha-Gomora and Darklops Zero from their base on Planet Chain.
- Evil Knockoff: While Robot Ultraseven was in the Salome's original appearance in Ultraseven and a Robot Ace appeared briefly in Ultraman Ace, all of the others are totally new.
- Mecha-Mooks: Of the Salome, who pretty much specialize in this.
- Robot Me: Of all the Ultra Brothers except Taro.
Beatstar
Voiced by: Unshou Ishizuka
The Big Bad of Killer the Beatstar. Beatstar is a supercomputer created by survivors of a universe destroyed by Alien Bat to monitor their planet-ship as they fled for new dimensions. However, his creators became hateful and violent towards each other, leading the A.I. to believe it must destroy all organic life to bring peace. Thus it searches for worlds to destroy, eventually bringing it into conflict with the Ultimate Force Zero and ZAP SPACY when it captures Jean-Bot and Princess Emerana.
- A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Was made for the purpose of maintaining order within its worldship. Unfortunately for the ship's inhabitants, any wars waged between them are also dealt with. Severely.
- The Assimilator: Able to gain control over any robots and cyborgs it captures, creating vast armies of King Joes, Imperisers, Legionoids, as well as commanding an Ace Killer and the enslaved Jean-Bot.
- The Blank: Possesses no facial features despite its humanoid form.
- Macross Missile Massacre: Its body is covered in hidden missile launchers it fires en masse at Zero.
- Master Computer: Of the worldship of the same name. Jean-Killer describes Beatstar as not just the A.I., but the whole 'planet'.
- Ominous Fog: Produces energy-draining fog to weaken the Ultimate Force Zero against their robot foes while also adding atmosphre against the hero's silent enemies.
- Omnicidal Maniac: Seeks to destroy all organic life in the universe, believing that all such beings are evil.
- Planet Spaceship: Built for one, a Dyson Sphere large enough to destroy a planet by simply plowing into it. It's hollow inside houses the inhabitants, with an artificial sun and moon giving a semblance of normality.

Miscellaneous Monsters
Of course, the Ultra Series' many Monsters of the Week all get roles in Ultraman Zero's adventures. Those with notable appearances are listed below.Alien Zarab
Voiced by: Takeshi Aono
An alien who only appears at the very beginning of the movie (although there are some hints he was the one seen in Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle NEO), where he has somehow gotten his hand on the Giga-Battlenizer (as seen in The Stinger of Ultraman Mebius: Ghost Rebirth). He used it free Belial from his prison after sneaking past the guards, hoping that Belial would form an alliance with him in gratitude. Unfortunately, Belial killed him instead, causing M78's greatest crisis yet.See Ultraman- Early-Bird Cameo: Disregarding the possibility that he was the one from Ultra Galaxy (as suggested by his fondness for collecting Battlenizers), the Zarab in this movie (or at least his hand) is first seen in The Stinger of Ultraman Mebius: Ghost Rebirth.
Zaragas
A monster encountered by ZAP SPACY when they land on the planet Dent. It was battled and quickly defeated by Rei's Gomora. This is also Zaragas' reintroduction into the Ultra Series since originally appearing in 1967 (for context, the movie came out in 2009).See Ultraman- Breath Weapon: Zaragas spits a fireball at ZAP SPACY when it first arrives — an ability not seen in any other appearance.
- The Bus Came Back: From this point onwards, Zaragas becomes a recurring kaiju for the next few Ultra series after a 40+ year absence from the franchise.
Alien Shaplay
A Reionyx who apparently survived the events of Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle NEO and is now working for Ultraman Belial. He is sent to patrol the frozen Land of Light with three of Belial's monsters (Dorako, Bemstar, and Salamandoras) and prevent Hayata, Dan, Mirai, and Rei from escaping the Land of Light to find Belial. This is also Alien Shaplay's reintroduction into the Ultra Series after his 1968 debut.See Ultraseven- The Bus Came Back: One of many monsters in the film to have not been seen since their original appearances. Curiously though, his monster Giladorus seems to have been forgotten.
- Super Spit: Shown to be able to spit a glob of corrosive goo that damages Mirai's Mebium Brace.
Black King
Alien Shaplay's personal Battlenizer monster, summoned to destroy the heroes after Dan's Capsule Monsters defeat Dorako, Bemstar, and Salamandoras. It battles Rei's Gomora while Shaplay takes on the Ultras in their human identities. This is also Black King's reintroduction into the Ultra Series, having not appeared since 1971.See Return of Ultraman- The Bus Came Back: After having gone unseen in the Ultra series since Return of Ultraman, Black King returns and goes on to become one of most frequently recurring kaiju in the franchise.
Alien Zetton
An agent of Ultraman Belial sent to attack ZAP SPACY with the robotic dragon Narse in response to Rei joining the fight against the dark Ultra warrior. However, his appearance is also marked by the unexpected return of Shin Asuka.See UltramanNarse
Another monster reintroduced into the Ultra Series after a lengthy absence (unseen since 1967). It was a member of Belial's 100 Monster Army, sent alongside Alien Zetton to attack ZAP SPACY. However, Narse's return also marked the return of another character — Ultraman Dyna.See Ultraseven- The Bus Came Back: However, it seems Narse took the bus again, because this remains the robot dragon's only reappearance to date.
King Joe
One of four robots wandering the interior of the worldship containing Beatstar, including Ace Killer, Imperiser, and a Legionoid.See Ultraseven- Half the Man He Used to Be: Zero destroys him by chopping him in two.
- Villain Team-Up: Bands with Ace Killer and Imperiser to beat down on Rei's Gomora.

A monster that attacks Team U at the beginning of the film when they're out shopping, being one of numerous kaiju resurrected by Alien Bat from the Monster Graveyard. Fortunately, Ultraman Dyna shows up and easily destroys the beast.See Return of UltramanGomess
One of two monsters used by Alien Bat to attack Team U after the defeat of Earthtron. It faced off against Ultraman Zero and Ultraman Cosmos alongside Gubila.See Ultra QGubila
The second of two monsters resurrected by Alien Bat to attack Team U, only to be faced with Ultraman Zero and Ultraman Cosmos. This also marks the return of Gubila to the Ultra Series, having not been seen since his debut in the original 1966 series.See Ultraman- The Bus Came Back: The only example not from Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends. Afterwards, Gubila becomes another frequently recurring kaiju, only with a more sympathetic side than in his original appearance.

Ultraman Zero (ウルトラマンゼロUrutoraman Zero)[1][2][3] is a fictional character from the Ultra Series. He first appeared in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy before starring in his own film Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. Lacking a TV series of his own, he became the main navigator of Ultraman Retsuden/Shin Ultraman Retsuden and made guest appearances in subsequent Ultra Series media.
Introduced as an energetic, boastful, and stubborn warrior, Zero was sent into banishment by Ultraseven after his failed attempt to steal the Plasma Spark. Zero was trained under Ultraman Leo and was forced to wear the Techtor Gear. When Ultraman Belial returned to the Land of Light and steal the Plasma Spark, Zero redeemed himself by defeating Belial and retrieving the Plasma Spark, at the same time learned of his origin as the son of Seven (セブンの息子Sebun no Musuko). Although he retained his hotheaded traits, Zero slowly went through character development and matured as his roles in the Ultra Series progressed. After helping to defeat Belial's invasion attempt in another dimension, he founded Ultimate Force Zero to protect the universe from evil threats and wiping out remnants of Belial's former army.
Ultraman Zero is voiced by Mamoru Miyano (宮野 真守Miyano Mamoru),[4] whose known for his role as Setsuna F. Seiei in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. In tribute to his voice actor, Ultraman Zero utters his pre-battle catchphrase, 'I am Zero, Ultraman Zero!' (俺がゼロ, ウルトラマンゼロ!Ore ga Zero, Urutoraman Zero!), which is based on Setsuna's infamous line, 'I am Gundam!'. In the English dub movies, he is voiced by Daniel Van Thomas.[5]

Character conception[edit]
Movie producer Junya Okabe stated that Zero's involvement in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy was to invoke the elements of a parent-child relationship. Ultraman Zero's title as 'the son of Seven' laid a huge impact on the audience.[6] The setting of Zero as Leo's pupil was made under suggestion of director Koichi Sakamoto incorporating elements of his favorite Kung fu films.[7] His youthful and hot-blooded outlook is based on Joe Yabuki from Ashita no Joe[8] while his fighting skills revolves around the combination of Ultraseven and Leo.[9][10]
In Ultraman Saga, a comical plot was suggested to the character as a new element and Zero's 5 meter-transformation is based on proposal made by VFX producer as part of an Ultra Warrior's relationship with humanity.[11]
Design[edit]
Ultraseven Ax, the initial draft of Ultraman Zero as photographed in a special event in Tokyo Dome City during 2010.[12]
Ultraman Zero was designed by Masayuki Gotou under the initial draft name Ultraseven Ax (ウルトラセブンアックスUrutorasebun Akkusu).[3][13] The original design was based on a modernized variation of Ultraseven,[13] being all-red in color and lacked a Color Timer.[14][3] Due to how common the red color is among Ultra Warriors, blue was added as well to make him more attractive to new viewers.[13] His mouth design is similar to Seven, but the whole face is composed of diagonal lines, and it has become possible to show different expressions according to the angle.[3]
Zero's suit was simultaneously made with Ultraman Belial, based on wetsuits with the materials shaped in a three-dimensional appearance.[15] It was originally structured to fit the suit actor tightly in hopes of preventing wrinkles but was loosen a bit to increase mobility in Zero's actions.[3]
Although the mask was originally molded integrally with the head, Zero and Belial were structured out of plane.[7] Because of the finalized design of Zero's head turned out to be different, his Zero Sluggers were forced to be redesigned after the first filming of Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy, thus making it bigger than the intended size.[16] The LED emitters were placed at the center of his eyes, appearing in a similar manner to pupil.
According to Ultra's Common Sense - Ultraseven, Ultraman Zero ver., the appearance of Zero's younger self is 'suggested' to be identical to ESP Alien Uringa (超能力星人 ウリンガChō Nōryoku Seijin Uringa) from episode 29 of Ultraman Leo.[17]
Designs of other forms were as follows:
- Techtor Gear Zero: Originally dubbed as 'Armored Ax' (アーマードアックスĀmādo Akkusu).[14] Because of the difficulty in designing Zero, Techtor Gear Zero was made first to hide his original appearance.[6][7] It was initially planned to have a sharp design but producer Junya Okabe proposed a daring appearance.[3] Its suit is a separate molding from the original Zero while the orange tubes were portrayed to be able to expand and contracting itself.[3]
- Ultimate Zero: The Final Ultimate Zero configuration was taken from the original plan of having the Zero Sluggers into a bow instead of the Zero Twin Sword.[14] In the beginning, this form is meant to be an armament than a mode change.[18] The armor is designed after a pair of wings and its breastplate was meant to be worn on the left arm.[18][19] Its relation to Ultraman Noa is a tribute to episode 7 of Ultraman, doing so in hopes of invoking the relationship of the Stone of Baraj to Noa.[20]
- Mode Change: Strong-Corona Zero and Luna-Miracle Zero, the two forms that appeared in Ultra Zero Fight were incorporated with elements from Ultramen Dyna and Cosmos.[21]
Naming[edit]
Yuji Kobayashi revealed that the reason he named the character as 'Zero' is to symbolize the 'restart of Ultraman story from scratch'.[22]
History[edit]
Galaxy Crisis Era[edit]
Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy[edit]
Long ago, Zero was a young and powerful warrior, similar to Belial, and like him attempted to steal energy from the Plasma Spark. However, Zero was caught red handed by Ultraseven and the Ultra Brothers and was exiled, sent to be trained under the LeoBrothers in Planet K76. His training took place during Belial's second and successful attempted theft of Plasma Spark. Survivors of Belial's attack, Shin Hayata (Ultraman) and Mirai Hibino (Ultraman Mebius), considered recruiting Zero but Dan Moroboshi (Ultraseven) was against it, believing he wasn't ready. During his time training under Ultraman Leo, Zero was forced to wear the Techtor Gear armor that limited his movements and strength and befriended a Pigmon.
After saving the Pigmon's life during a training session, Zero's actions proved to Leo and Ultraman King that he had matured and revealed to him his true origins as the son of Ultraseven, and when Seven stopped Zero from touching the Plasma Spark, he had saved Zero from following Belial's fallen path. Seven's Eye Slugger then landed at the training ground, Leo realized that Seven was calling for Zero's help against Belial at the Monster Graveyard, and King removed the locks on Zero's Techtor Gear. Redeemed and now freed from his armor, Ultraman Zero took off to the Monster Graveyard to confront Ultraman Belial, with his father's Eye Slugger. However Zero was too late too save his father, and Seven died from the exhaustion and injuries from his battle. Angered by the passing of his father, Zero proceeded to kill the remaining monsters of Belial's army in a mad fury before facing Belial and defeating him, however Belial quickly re-emerged as Belyudra. Zero tapped into the Plasma Spark's power, creating the Zero Twin Sword and decimated Belial with it. In aftermath of the battle, Zero returned the Plasma Spark to its position and reunited with his revived father.[23]
Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial[edit]
During the events of The Revenge of Belial, an attack from a trio of Darklops prompted Zero to volunteer himself in an inter-dimensional exploration to track the source. He was given the Ultra Zero Bracelet by Ultraseven, which allowed him to transform three times in an alternate dimension and received help from residents of the Land of Light during the travel. Upon arrival, he fought against Legionoid armies on the Planet Anu and bonded with a local police miner named Run in order to save his life. However, Zero discovered that the man's consciousness was in comatose state, leaving the former in control of Run's body and took care of Nao, his younger brother. The two stowed away in the Jean-bird but was spared by Princess Emerana when they decided to help her search for the Shield of Baraj. Along the way, they met and allied with several factions that guide them towards the Shield of Baraj and helped out holding off Belial Galactic Empire's army.
Upon arrival at Ultraman Noa's statue, Nao tried to install a shard piece he had to the shield but crumbled. With Belial's army approaching and the Planet of Mirrors shattering, Run saved Nao and Emerana at the cost of being captured and had his Ultra Zero Eye separated. The resistances arrived and Mirror Knight saved Run from Belial, allowing him to regain his Ultra Zero Eye and transformed into Zero. Both sworn enemies fought once more but Belial used all of the emeralds he stolen to transform into Arch Belial. Despite the resistant forces helping out as well, Zero died from the depletion of his energy while trying to shield Planet Esmeralda from Arch Belial until the hopes of the resistances of Belial Galactic Empire brought forth the spirit of Ultraman Noa, allowing him to revive Zero and grant him the true form of the Shield of Baraj: the Ultimate Aegis. Zero assumed Ultimate Zero form with it and destroyed Belial with the Final Ultimate Zero technique. In aftermath of the battle, he healed Run's injuries and left to form Ultimate Force Zero with the giant heroes he came across earlier.[24]
Ultraman Saga[edit]
Zero still continued with his mission to wipe out the remnants of Belial's army and at that time, he was called into another Planet Earth by Shin Asuka/Ultraman Dyna, sensing a new threat in a form of Alien Bat. In that world, he discovered that the Earth's populations had mysteriously vanished and also fused with a dimensional-displaced Super GUTS member named Nozomu Taiga. Taiga himself had a hatred for Ultramen due to his past, which explained his reluctance to use Zero's power. Zero tend to act as the straight man to Taiga's antics and because of their lack of cooperation, Zero was incapable of summoning his full power, only appearing as a 5 m tall version of himself during their first transformation. Upon learning of Taiga's past and the latter deciding to overcome it, the two eventually settled their differences and finally being able to perform a successful transformation, joining forces with Ultraman Cosmos in facing Gigant Hyper Zetton and rescuing Ultraman Dyna.
Although the three Ultra Warriors managed to destroy Gigant Zetton, Alien Bat made his final move by assimilating his ship into Zetton's corpse and form Imago Hyper Zetton. The monster was too much for the Ultra Warriors to handle and the monster quickly defeated them. While Dyna and Cosmos were forced to revert to their human hosts, Zero instead died once more but the three Ultra hosts managed to unite into Ultraman Saga and destroy the monster. In aftermath, Zero separated from Taiga and departed to space.
In Ultraman Saga Super Complete Works magazine, Zero was mentioned to have visited the alternate Earth once more, with Anna of Team U wrote his arrival in her diary.[25]
Ultra Zero Fight[edit]
Following his separation from Ultraman Saga, Zero gained the abilities of Ultraman Dyna and Cosmos, allowing him to transform into Strong-Corona Zero and Luna-Miracle Zero. Zero went to the Monster Graveyard to train and wonder about the purpose of obtaining such power. At that time, he faced of against Alien Bat Glacier and his army of revived monsters. Zero used his new powers to eliminate the monsters before facing the alien himself, now having absorbed the defeated monsters' souls. In the ensuing battle, Glacier used his life link to Pigmon as an advantage, forcing Zero to surrender until Pigmon's reassurance gave him the will to continue fighting, splitting himself into two bodies. Using Strong-Corona Zero he defeated Glacier and with Luna-Miracle Zero was able to purify the restless monsters' spirit and save Pigmon's life. In the end, Zero finally found the purpose of his powers before returning to his comrades.
Shining Zero (above) and Zero Darkness (below), two of the miniseries-exclusive forms.
In the second part, Zero faced off against the Darkness Five led by a mysterious benefactor. The Ultimate Force Zero held off the majority of their members their own while Zero faced against the Alien Mefilas Sly to rescue Pigmon. Later on, he faced the Armored Darkness, who was revealed to be his supposedly deceased enemy, Ultraman Belial. The two fought in a heated match but once Zero stabbed Belial with his sword, Belial quickly possessed Zero into Zero Darkness (ゼロダークネスZero Dākunesu), using his powers to assassinate the rest of the Ultimate Force Zero. The real Ultraman Zero was left powerless inside his own body, leaving Belial in control his body to lead the Darkness Five in their conquest. Pigmon tried to stop them despite its size but before Belial could kill it, his attacked mysteriously stopped. It was revealed that Zero's spirit had halted Belial from attacking or progress further. Within Zero's mind, fought Belial, bringing forth his strongest form, Shining Zero. With Belial expelled, Shining Zero regained control over his body and reverse the flow of time in the immediate area to undo the damages done by Belial and revive the Ultimate Force Zero. The act greatly exhausted him and was unable to recall earlier incidents but in the end joined his comrades in returning home as they tried to pick a new name for Pigmon.[26]
In the epilogue, it was revealed that Zero unknowingly resurrect Belial and Jathar from their deaths, the latter being his first kill in the second part of series in hopes of restoring the Ultimate Force Zero from their bronze petrifaction.

Ultraman Geed[edit]
Ultraman Zero appeared in this series as a secondary character and hero. Zero had been present at the battle between Belial and the Ultra Warriors, but was defeated by his arch enemy, allowing Belial to initiate the Crisis Impact that resulted in Ultraman King sacrificing himself to protect the fate of the Universe.
Six years later, he was sent to Earth to retrieve the stolen Ultra Capsules but his Ultimate Bracelet damaged from his past battle. He formed a symbiosis with a salaryman named Leito Igaguri to recuperate and observe Ultraman Geed while saving the human's life.[43][44][44] After sacrificing his life to protect Leito, Riku/Geed and several other humans held captive by Kei, Zero was revived through his human host's will and receive the ability to transform into Ultraman Zero Beyond after Hikari delivers a set of Riser and Ultra Capsules. His corresponding Little Star hosted Leito's daughter Mayu, who gains the ability to teleport until her prayer for Geed allowed Riku to harvest it as Zero Capsule (ゼロカプセルZero Kapuseru). Zero mainly served as Geed's support in his battles against Belial, the Ultraman later leaving Leito's body once his nemesis is defeated so he can return to Planet Ultra with his repaired Ultimate Bracelet.

As the official website of Tsuburaya Productions stated: '[Ultraman Zero] His father being Ultraseven, taught by the Ultraman Leo/Astra siblings, chased the evil Belial into another space, receiving the Ultimate Bracelet and finally thwarted the Belial Galactic Empire. Alongside Glen Fire, Mirror Knight, Jean-bot and Jean-nine, they form the Ultimate Force Zero.'[1]
Transformation[edit]
Zero's hosts transform through the use of Ultra Zero Eye (ウルトラゼロアイUrutora Zero Ai), which is based on Ultraseven's Ultra Eye.[52] During the transformation scene, once they don it, the ribbons of light and the Zero Sluggers appear with Zero's body materializing on the human host's before the Zero Sluggers attach and appeared in the human world. When not in use, the Ultra Zero Eye is stored within the Ultra Zero Bracelet (now Ultimate Bracelet) and can also be utilized in a similar manner to a handgun by his hosts when needed. The left part of the google emblazoned Zero's signature.[a][18]
- Ultra Zero Eye NEO (ウルトラゼロアイNEOUrutora Zero Ai Neo):[44][53] An upgraded variant of the Ultra Zero Eye, serving as Leito's transformation device. Leito transforms by donning the Zero Eye and press the button on the right goggle, causing Zero to develop around his body and him rising in a similar manner to conventional Ultra Warriors. By attaching it to the Riser, it provided the latter device's Zero Mode (ゼロモードZero Mōdo).
- Riser (ライザーRaizā): The same model of Geed Riser (ジードライザーJīdo Raizā) that is used by Riku and Kei, it was delivered by Ultraman Hikari alongside a batch of New Generation Capsules. Leito first attach the Ultra Zero Eye NEO to the Riser and scans a pair of Ultra Capsules (ウルトラカプセルUrutora Kapuseru), New Generation Capsule Alpha (ニュージェネレーションカプセルαNyū Jenerēshon Kapuseru Arufa, Ginga and Orb) and New Generation Capsule Beta (ニュージェネレーションカプセルβNyū Jenerēshon Kapuseru Bēta, Victory and X) to perform Neo Fusion Rise (ネオ・フュージョンライズNeo Fyūjon Raizu) and transforms into Ultraman Zero Beyond.[54] Likewise with Riku's Geed Riser, the Ultra Capsule announcements were provided by Nobuyuki Hiyama (檜山 修之Hiyama Nobuyuki).[55]
Features and weapons[edit]
- Beam Lamp (ビームランプBīmu Ranpu): A small light located on his forehead, which mainly functions to launch the Emerium Slash (エメリウムスラッシュEmeriumu Surasshu).[2][3][56] It is among the features inherited from his father.
- Protector (プロテクターPurotekutā): Silver armor on Zero's chest and shoulders which functions as solar panels, allowing him to put out of exhaustion for a longer period in combat. Compared to his father, Zero possess a Color Timer (カラータイマーKarā Taimā) on its intersection, allowing him to perform the Zero Twin Shoot (ゼロツインシュートZero Tsuin Shūto).[2][3][56]
- Zero Sluggers (ゼロスラッガーZero Suraggā):[2][3][56] Twin boomerang knives from his head, they are analogous to Ultraseven's Eye Slugger. They can be combined into multiple configurations, such as Zero Twin Sword (ゼロツインソードZero Tsuin Sōdo), which he created by tapping into the Plasma Spark's power and Combination Zero (コンビネーションゼロKonbinēshon Zero)shuriken by combining with his father's Eye Slugger.[57] In the Ultraman Saga Zero & Ultra Brothers Pop Out, The Zero Twin Sword can still be used as a boomerang while its attack was enhanced by Zoffy's M87 Ray.[58]
- Ultra Zero Bracelet (ウルトラゼロブレスレットUrutora Zero Buresuretto):[59] A bracelet that Seven gave to Zero, which allowed him to transform three times in an alternate universe. After receiving the Ultimate Aegis from Ultraman Noa, the bracelet was upgraded into the Ultimate Bracelet (ウルティメイトブレスレットUrutimeito Buresuretto), now allowing him to endlessly operate in any alternate universes.[b][47] According to director Yuichi Abe, the Ultimate Bracelet is not only Noah's power, but also contains the lights of people's hearts from every universes, thus making it the strongest item to exist.[61] As of Ultraman Geed, the device broke due to Zero's past battle with Belial and his current power diminishment.[44] True to being analogous to Ultraman Jack's Ultra Bracelet, the bracelet can also turn into weapons such as:
- Ultra Zero Spark (ウルトラゼロスパークUrutora Zero Supāku)[59]
- Ultra Zero Lance (ウルトラゼロランスUrutora Zero Ransu)[59][56]
- Ultra Zero Defender (ウルトラゼロディフェンダーUrutora Zero Difendā)
- Ultra Converter (ウルトラコンバーターUrutora Konbātā): After being weakened in Alien Bat's Anti Ultra Field, Zero was given the Ultra Converter by Zoffy to recharge his energy, allowing them to finish Birdon.
Forms, powers and abilities[edit]
Being trained by Ultraman Leo, Zero utilizes Judo and Space Kenpō (宇宙拳法Uchū Kenpō) in combat. He is also capable of adapting his opponent's fighting skills to his own such as copying Glen Fire's piledriver attack (Glen Driver) into Zero Driver (ゼロドライバーZero Doraibā).[59] His finisher is the Wide Zero Shot (ワイドゼロショットWaido Zero Shotto), which is performed in his master's pre-fighting stance before shifting to the 'L'-style beam attack used by Ultraseven.[2][3][56] His flying kick attack, Ultra Zero Kick (ウルトラゼロキックUrutora Zero Kikku) is learned from his master (Leo)'s Leo Kick and alongside the latter, both are capable of performing combination attacks such as Leo Zero Kick (レオゼロキックReo Zero Kikku) and Leo-Zero Double Flasher (レオゼロダブルフラッシャーReo Zero Daburu Furasshā), replacing Astra's position in both attacks.[2][3][62][56]
In addition, he can also access these forms:
- Techtor Gear Zero (テクターギア・ゼロTekutā Gia Zero):[49] During Zero's banishment and training under Ultraman Leo, he was forced to wear the Techtor Gear (テクターギアTekutā Gia) armor that limited his strength and performance. Eventually after his redemption had been acknowledged by Ultraman King, he was freed from the armor itself. While facing Alien Bat Glacier, he was imprisoned in a rust-colored variant of Techtor Gear called Techtor Gear Hatred (テクターギア・ヘイトリッドTekutā Gia Heitoriddo). While Zero could easily adapt to this armor, the tide turned to Glacier favor when he activated a hidden function which restrained Zero with electric shocks. Eventually, he was able to escape via Strong-Corona Mode.
- Zero Slugger Gear (ゼロスラッガーギアZero Suraggā Gia):[63] Appearing in Ultraman Festival 2010, these are armaments wielded by Zero when his Zero Sluggers transform into a set of armors. Zero separates into three, with the two clones assumed different armor respectively. They are designed by the children as part of New Power-up Armor Design Contest (新強化アーマーデザインコンテストShin Kyōka Āmā Dezain Kontesuto), and represented different magazines:
- Super Form (スーパーフォームSūpā Fōmu): Represent the winner in the Televi-kun, Super Form appears as a blue armor transformed from the power of sacred light. It gives Zero a sleeker fighting style, allowing him to move at great speed while using blade protrusions on his arms as weapons. Through the giant star emblem on his chest, Zero is able to execute Emerium Star Beam (エメリウムスタービームEmeriumu Sutā Bīmu).[63]
- Keeper Form (キーパーフォームKīpā Fōmu): Represent the winner in the Televi Magazine, Keeper Form appears as a silver armor that grants him enhanced brute strength. Zero's main weapons are a shield on the left arm and the Reflection Blade (リフレクションブレードRifurekushon Burēdo) on his right that allows him to absorb an incoming attack and return it to their owner.
- Ultimate Zero (ウルティメイトゼロUrutimeito Zero):[26] A form where Zero dons the Ultimate Aegis (ウルティメイトイージスUrutimeito Ījisu), it allows Zero to travel to other dimensions and universes. This armor grants him the Ultimate Zero Sword (ウルティメイトゼロソードUrutimeito Zero Sōdo),[47][19] enables him to fight stronger opponents and be reconfigured into a bow and arrow, allowing him to initiate his finisher, the Final Ultimate Zero (ファイナルウルティメイトゼロFainaru Urutimeito Zero),[47][19] or a stronger variant, the Final Ultimate Zero Trinity (ファイナルウルティメイトゼロ・トリニティFainaru Urutimeito Zero Toriniti), with the help of Ultramen Dyna and Cosmos.[48] The Ultimate Aegis' true form is the Shield of Baradhi (バラージの盾Barāji no Tate), which was sought by resistance of Belial's Galactic Empire to defeat him, and later bestowed to Zero by Ultraman Noa. Despite being so powerful, once used for cross-universe transportation, the armor needed to be recharged before being utilized again. Certain opponents seems to have natural resistance towards the attack such as Etelgar, who was able to survive the attack despite having his scarf and mask burned in the process. The data of Ultimate Aegis was replicated by Dr. Guruman in Ultraman X for the titular character to assume Ultraman Zero Armor.
- Mode Changes (モードチェンジMōdo Chenji): These are alternate forms achieved after Zero's combination with Dyna and Cosmos to form Ultraman Saga.[64]
- Strong-Corona Zero (ストロングコロナゼロSutorongu Korona Zero):[26] Zero's red alternate form, which served as an analogy to Dyna's Strong Type and Cosmos' Corona Mode. It allows Zero to utilize brute strength and initiate the Ultra Hurricane (ウルトラハリケーンUrutora Harikēn) before using the Garnate Buster (ガルネイトバスターGaruneito Basutā) as a finisher. As a side effect of the transformation, Zero speaks in an exciting tone.
- Luna-Miracle Zero (ルナミラクルゼロRuna Mirakuru Zero):[26][65] Zero's blue alternate form, which served as an analogy to Dyna's Miracle Type and Cosmos' Luna Mode. It allows Zero to utilize speed and mental abilities and use the Miracle Zero Slugger (ミラクルゼロスラッガーMirakuru Zero Suraggā) as his finisher. As a side effect of the transformation, Zero speaks in a calm monotone. Since this form bears some of the traits of Cosmos' Luna Mode, Zero is capable of using the Full Moon Wave (フルムーンウェーブFuru Mūn Wēbu), a non-lethal ray that pacifies monsters.
- Shining Ultraman Zero (シャイニングウルトラマンゼロShainingu Urutoraman Zero):[26][66] Zero's 'final form', which acquired when he expelled Belial from his body. Here, Zero's body bore gold and silver and possess the Shining Energy Core (シャイニングエナジーコアShainingu Enajī Koa) in place of his Color Timer. His main attack is Shining Emerium Slash (シャイニングエメリウムスラッシュShainingu Emeriumu Surasshu) which is an enhanced versions of his regular attack. However, his strongest known ability is the Shining Star Drive (シャイニングスタードライヴShainingu Sutā Doraivu), which rewinds time in a certain area but being the strongest attack, it exhausts Zero greatly before reducing him to his original form. In the PlayStation Portable game Ultraman All Star Chronicle, he demonstrated an attack called the Shining Wide Zero Shot (シャイニングワイドゼロショットShainingu Waido Zero Shotto).[c][67][68]
- Crossover Formation (クロスオーバーフォーメーションKurosu Ōbā Fōmēshon): A momentary power boost that is nigh-identical to Ultraman Tiga's Glitter Tiga. Appeared in Ginga S The Movie, this form is used by all Heisei Ultras to empower their finishers and destroy Etelgar's castle.
- Ultraman Zero Beyond (ウルトラマンゼロ ビヨンドUrutoraman Zero Biyondo):[54][69] A form that appears in Ultraman Geed achieved by using the Riser in Zero Mode. It features him using the assets of Ultramen Ginga, Victory, X and Orb. Through this form, Zero is capable of launching four Quattro Sluggers (クアトロスラッガーKuatoro Suraggā) and perform cotinuous punch/kick attacks.[69] His finishers are the Bulky Chorus (バルキーコーラスBarukī Kōrasu) and Wide Beyond Shot (ワイドビヨンドショットWaido Biyondo Shotto).

Run (ランRan)[24] is one of the main protagonists of Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial.
Alongside his brother Nao, both were orphaned and lived with their grandmother, working as police in a mining site of their home planet Anu. One day, when Belial's Darklops attacked the mining site, Zero bonded with Run to save the young man's life, but learns that he is in control of Run's body, as the original one is rendered comatose. After the events of the movie, a fully healed Run was separated from Zero, and has no recollection of the moments when Zero possessed him, much to Nao's dismay.
Run was portrayed by Yu Koyanagi (小柳 友Koyanagi Yū), while his childhood was portrayed by Kaito Nitta (新田 海統Nitta Kaito).
Shin Moroboshi[edit]
Shin Moroboshi (モロボシ・シンMoroboshi Shin) is a stage-show exclusive character that appeared in Ultraman Premier 2011 (ウルトラマンプレミア2011Urutoraman Puremia Nisenjūichi). He is the human disguise of Ultraman Zero and was portrayed by three different actors in each region:
- Daisuke Watanabe (渡辺大輔Watanabe Daisuke): Nagoya[70]
- Mamoru Miyano: Tokyo (also Zero's original voice actor)[71]
- Naoki Kawano (川野直輝Kawano Naoki): Osaka[72][73]

First appearance | Ultraman Saga (2012) |
Portrayed by | DAIGO |
Nozomu Taiga (タイガ・ノゾムTaiga Nozomu) is the main protagonist of Ultraman Saga and is the second host of Ultraman Zero. Originated from the same universe where Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Dyna took place, Taiga is the rookie member of Super GUTS after Asuka's disappearances. Taiga bears a lot of similarities to young Asuka (even called by senior Super GUTS members as 'the second coming of Shin Asuka') but however lacks respect in his predecessors, especially Ultramen after his parents were killed in an alien invasion while he shouted for Ultraman's help but to no avail. He appears to have hatred for carrots and in an aforementioned similarity, tends to act childish with Zero acting up as the straight man.
During the 15 year anniversary of Asuka's sacrifice, Taiga participated in an aerial combat against a troop of leftover Sphires whom tried to attack the Mars Colony. During the fight, he was brought to another world by accident and forcefully bonded with Zero after his near-death experiences in saving a boy. While butt heads with Zero due to his hatred for Ultraman, but after learning the truth of Team U (the alternate Earth's attack team)'s origin, he decided to adopt the mantle of Ultraman and puts aside his differences. After the event, he decided to stay on the alternate Earth than returning to his home world, wanting to observe the planet's future.
Nozomu Taiga was portrayed by DAIGO.[74][75] As a child, Taiga was portrayed by Mitsumasa Sato (佐藤 光将Satō Mitsumasa).
Leito Igaguri[edit]

First appearance | Ultraman Geed Episode 3: Salaryman Zero (2017) |
Portrayed by | Yuta Ozawa |
Leito Igaguri (伊賀栗 レイトIgaguri Reito)[e] is one of the protagonists of Ultraman Geed. Portrayed as a weak-willed but serious person, Leito is a family man with who works as a salaryman from the Business Affairs of Tanimaru Company (株式会社谷丸商事Kabushikigaisha Tanimaru Shōji). Despite the hardships he faced in his life, Leito sees his family as a motivation to work harder.
During one of Geed's fights, Leito died getting hit by a truck while attempting to save a Little Star holder named Toru Honda from being crushed by debris. Zero, touched by the human's bravery and needing a host to recuperate in, merged into Leito's body to restore him to life. While originally preferring to watch Geed's battles from afar, his body occasionally taken by the impatient Zero and is forced to participate and assist the young warrior.[44] During Zero's death at the hands of Galactron, Leito harbors a huge remorse for being helpless during that time until his new resolve allowed Zero to be revived and obtain the Riser to utilize Ultraman Zero Beyond. While fighting against Belial Atrocious, the injuries sustained from Zero was carried on towards Leito, forcing him to be hospitalized as Geed took over and emerged victorious. Leito and his family approached Zero for the last time before he return to his home world.
Leito Igaguri was portrayed by Yuta Ozawa (小澤 雄太Ozawa Yūta). Yuta mentions that as a child, he always wanted to become Father of Ultra, yet his character transforms into Ultraman Zero.[43] Leito (as Zero's host) being the father of a family is made under suggestion by writer Otsuichi as a contrast to Riku Asakura/Ultraman Geed's relation to Belial.[76]

Video games[edit]
- Compati Hero Series
- Ultraman Zero is featured as one of the characters in the Lost Heroes crossover game series, formed by Kamen Rider Series, Gundam and the Ultra Series. The game's main feature enables the players to perform team-up and crossover finishers with any characters from different franchise. One peculiar combination is Ultimate Zero and GNT-0000 00 Qan[T] (Setsuna F. Seiei) in the game's second install Lost Heroes 2 by performing GN Ultimate Zero Sword (GNウルティメイトゼロソードJī Enu Urutimeito Zero Sōdo), where both draw their swords and creates a huge GN Particle/Ultimate Aegis-powered energy sword before dropping it towards the enemy. After the battle, the two shouted their respective catchphrases. This team-up is rather interesting, as both Ultraman Zero and Setsuna share the same voice actor.[77]
- Zero appeared in the 14th level of the 2017 survival horror game City Shrouded in Shadow, entering the stage to aid Ultraman and Ultraman Taro just as Ultraman Belial overwhelms the two. Though beaten down by the evil Ultraman at first, the three Ultra Warriors, by the end of the stage, vanquish Belial with the combined forces of their respective energy beams.[78]
Anime[edit]
The Ultimate Force Zero meets Wooser in episode 1, season 3 of Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life.
- Ultraman Zero and the rest of the Ultimate Force Zero appeared in the third season of Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life, Phantasmagoric Arc as part of Tsuburaya Productions' collaboration with the Sanzigen anime studio. In the third season's first episode, Wooser was piloting the Mecha Wooser and win against a space armada. But in the aftermath of the battle, he and his mecha are left stranded in space, until he finds himself in a luminous light, where Ultraman Zero (accompanied by the Ultimate Force Zero), encourages him and thus helps Wooser to return to Earth. Zero makes his appearance again as a poster in Wooser's room and again as action figures alongside his teammates. In said anime, the main character Wooser is also voiced by Mamoru Miyano, who performs a dual role with Ultraman Zero.[79] A year earlier, in February 2014, the official blog of Ultraman Retsuden promoted Miyano's single NEW ORDER that was used for Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life Awakening Arc. The blog also noted of Miyano's role in Wooser and jokingly added if Wooser were to met Ultraman Zero someday.[80][81]
Music Video[edit]
- Ultraman Zero and the members of the Ultimate Force Zero (barring Jean-nine) appeared in the Girl Next Door's music video Unmei no Shizuku ~Destiny's star~, with said song was used as the ending theme for Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial.[82]
- Ultraman Zero is featured in Mamoru Miyano's 9th single, Ultra Fly as a background character. The song as well becomes the 6th opening of Ultraman Retsuden.[83][84][85]
Apps[edit]
- In late 2013, LINE announces the second release of Ultraman stickers sold at the price of USD$1.99. Zero was among the carricatures featured in the sets alongside other Ultra Warriors and Ultra Monsters.[86][87][88]
- As a tie-in to the Ginga S Movie, a smartphone game was released, called the Ultra 10 Braves (ウルトラ10勇士Urutora Jū Yūshi). Zero was reimagined as the original ninja from Sanada Ten Braves, Sarutobi Sasuke (猿飛 佐助), also called as Zero (零呂). His main weapon is a dagger.[89]
Virtual reality[edit]
- A virtual reality movie of Ultraman Zero was held in August 26 and 27, 2017 in selected VR Theaters in Japan. It featured Ultraman Zero fighting against Eleking with the viewers watching the battle from an office building.[90]
Reception[edit]
According to an interview with Famitsu, Mamoru stated that 'I was honestly surprised! At last I have become an Ultraman (laughs)'. He reminisces his days as a child watching the Ultra Series during summer breaks but unfortunately wasn't able to watch the entire series. His favorite Ultra Series is Ultra Seven and Ultraman Taro, as well as finding the chibi characters of Ultra Series (such as those from Ultraman Kids) quite interesting. He is also impressed by how Zero's design armed with two Eye Sluggers and that the Ultra Warrior's fighting skill involves speed and space martial arts movements.[91] In a 2013 interview with Susumu Kurobe (Shin Hayata/Ultraman's actor), he nominated Ultraman Zero as his favorite Ultra Warrior.[92]
Popularity[edit]
A photo featuring Ultraman Zero choking a Kyubey rag doll, one of the viral internet memes among the Japanese fandom.[93]
Ultraman Zero himself has his own official Twitter account, which started in 2010 and ended in March 2012. On March 1, 2011, he tweeted the readers to be careful of 'strangers' that offered them the chance to become a 'magical girl'. The post itself is a joke to a popular anime series, Puella Magi Madoka Magica which featured the main antagonist Kyubey manipulating girls (including the main characters of that series) into a magical girl and had become viral in the Japanese fandom ever since, creating a strings of internet meme that featured Zero facing Kyubey.[94][95]
In the Ultra Series' 45th anniversary, Ultraman Zero scored the first place in an Ultra Hero popularity ranking, but in another Ultra Hero poll in 2013, he scored the second place after losing to Ultraman Tiga.[96][97]
In 2009, in conjunction to the promotion of Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy, Ultraseven and Ultraman Zero were among the promoters of the newly introduced Windows 7. Seven's participation into the press conference is due to his name. Another guest of honors/promoter of the press conference is voice actress/singer Nana Mizuki, whom (like Ultraseven) also had her name being revolved around the aforementioned number.[98] He was among the Ultra Warriors that present in a 2013 award ceremony when the Ultra Series was nominated by Guinness World Records as the series with most spin-offs and sequels.[99][100]
Ultraman Zero and Ultraseven were the guest of honors in the 2016 Oyako Day, which was held on July 24. Two days prior, the two won the 'Oyako Grand Prize' by Bruce Osborn.[101]
